Our beloved sister, aunt and friend Jill Lucille Nelson unexpectedly passed away on January 17, 2025 at home. She was born on April 17, 1963 in South Dakota and was 61 years old.
Jill proudly said she grew up on a farm near Monroe, South Dakota. Her farm life has instilled much of her ability to work together, do and do to be creative and creative. She attended Parker High School in Parker, South Dakota in 1985 and earned a nursing degree from Augustina University. After being recruited in a snowstorm, he left South Dakota for the sun in Yuma, Arizona. She has become one of 16 new nurses who were boarding to open a new intensive care unit at Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC). She worked many night shifts and became a night shift nurse. In 2002, she received her Masters in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She held several other positions at YRMC and finished her time as Director of Critical Care Services. Still a passion for nursing and knowing she will give more, she decided to offset her retirement by working as a clinical nursing instructor at Northern Arizona University. She worked and taught “babys” and found a new passion for nursing.
She was named Arizona’s Critical Care Nurse of the Year in 1990. She was named YRMC Employee of the Year in 1996, and her job as a CASA child advocate (a court appointed as a special advocate) was recognized in 2006 by the Outstanding Advocate Jury Award.
Her very strong belief in the Lord and her promise to her mother led her to the church. She was a regular attendee at the Lutheran Church of Christ in Yuma. She was active in the Ministry of Health programs and led several medical education programs. She also belonged to several Bible study groups.
The two biggest loves other than nursing were her pussy and her family. But we don’t know what order we place those loves in. From her childhood until her death, she was deeply involved in the lives of her sisters, brothers, nie and nephews. She returned to her home and visited multiple times, hosted her family in Yuma, catching up with her birthday, graduation and blessed birth. She had special tips to host her “seniors”, always taking the time for them and having endless patience. She had a fourth love, football. She is a loyal Minnesota Viking fan (SKOL) and was able to see Yuma Catholic Shamrock, whether it be 110 or 60 degrees weather, and was able to find it mostly in the fall on Friday nights.
She is killed by her parents Lowell and Mildred Nelson, her beloved sister-in-law, Elaine Nelson, the great Nie Kiza Alm, and her sister Judy Nelson. She leaves behind her older brother Ron Nelson, sisters Delaine (Dick) Phillips, sisters Jannin Ogle (Randy), brothers Jim (Barb) Nelson and sister Peg (Willy) Williamson. There are many nie, nephew, cousins, and many others who have called her lifelong friend Peggy Hampton Orr, as well as Jill as their special friend.
