Mary J. (teDuits) Brizzee, 89, from Davenport, Iowa and Prescott, Arizona, died Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Carl Home in Davenport.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Apostolic Catholic Church in Davenport on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM, with visitation taking place in the church’s meeting space one hour before Mass.
Mass will be streamed live by visiting Mary’s obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com. Burial will be held at a later date at Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. Mary Jean teDuits was born June 8, 1933 to Aloysius (Alvie) and Marie (Brus) teDuits on a family farm in Eldridge, Iowa. She attended elementary school in Bluegrass #8, a one-room schoolhouse, until her family moved to Davenport and graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy. Afterwards, Mary attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls.
Mary worked briefly in Davenport before joining a major airline in Kansas City, Missouri. Thus began her lifelong love of travel. Mary’s promotion in her travel industry next brought her to Phoenix, where, with the help of her brother Ben, she met her lifelong love, Harry Brisey. Mary and Harry she married in August 1963. Mary and Harry fell in love with Prescott while participating in one of her many camping adventures. After moving to Prescott from Phoenix, Mary got a job at a local travel agency. Corey She lived in a small neighborhood near Avenue, and Mary became known as “the Sheriff of Pindell” for her careful watch over the area. She operated in her Catholic Church parish at Sacred Heart and volunteered at the Yavapai County Jail. After her 43 years in Prescott, Mary decided to live closer to her older sister and her younger brother in the Midwest, and she moved back to Davenport in 2014.
Survivors include her brothers Helene Hood, Davenport, and Ben (Marilyn) teDuits (Madison, Wisconsin). Her stepchildren, Selina Colvin and James (Patti) Brisey, all Phoenix. Daughter-in-law, Carla Brisey, Wisconsin. and her many step-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Momo”. With niece, nephew, great-niece, nephew, great-great-niece.
Mary died before her husband Harry and her parents in 1998. her brother and sister-in-law, John and Patricia Teduits; her brother-in-law, Jim Hood; Her stepson, Harry Brisey Jr. and Eddie Brisey. and her daughter-in-law, Pat Brisey. May they rest in peace.
