Roy Oswalt, 71, died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Roy grew up in Kingman. His family said Roy was not yet a year old.He moved there in 1951. His parents, Bill He Oswalt and Lena Oswalt, owned and operated Kimo His Cafe in the 1950s, then from 1955 until 1969 he ran Bill He Oswalt’s Restaurant.

As a boy, Roy’s spare time was spent roaming the White Cliffs with his neighbor Toby and his loyal dog Stormy.

Roy attended school in Kingman and graduated from Mojave County Union High School (aka “Mucus”) in 1969. His high school class was famous for building a giant “1969” out of Coors cans and stacking it on the high school roof. school.

Roy then majored in Fine Arts at Arizona State University, where he began his craft career. He became a skilled and successful silversmith and his jewelery was featured in several articles in his Highways magazine in Arizona.

Over time, Roy’s interests broadened and he became an art dealer and appraiser. For decades, he owns and operates the Ancient He Arts Gallery in Scottsdale, where he sells Navajo rugs, silver his jewelry, Native American pottery and baskets, and Western memorabilia. Additionally, Roy was skilled at restoring historical and prehistoric pottery and other artifacts, and his knowledge of the indigenous cultures of the Southwest (particularly Hohokam) was extensive.
