Scott Roy Dunton Sr., 72, passed away suddenly on March 16, 2023.
He was born on October 17, 1950 in Kingman, Arizona, the son of Franklin Roy and Peggy Josephine (Rogers) Danton.
After graduating from Mojave County Union High School in 1968, Scott attended Arizona State University in 1972, graduating with a degree in Business Real Estate.
Scott served as president of the Phi Sigma Kapha Fraternity, where he developed lifelong friendships.
After graduating, he worked for his father at Dunton Motors on Route 66 in Kingman. The dealer was dear to his heart. He started working there at the age of nine, sweeping floors, cleaning toilets, building his strong work ethic and continuing to adhere to it for the rest of his life.
At the family owned dealership, Scott rose from Dunton Motors Salesman to General Manager and Half Owner. Scott and his father then set up a new car dealership that sold his five General Motors lines, including Cadillac and his GMC.
He eventually owned and franchised dealerships in Kingman, Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City. In 1974, Scott fell in love with Marilyn Butler and married in 1975.
They shared four children together: Scott Jr., Shane, Shelby, and Shawna.
They had been married for 20 years and Scott and Marilyn remained best friends.
Scott spent the next 27 years with his girlfriend Kathy Hodges. They loved each other very much and spent time in Kingman and Scottsdale.Kathy took good care of Scott and she was always by his side.
Scott was a great businessman and a pillar of the Kingman community he loved.
He was heavily involved with Route 66 and was a member of the Elks Club. Scott has held a real estate license since 1972, planning and zoning, downtown he was involved with the Kingman Preservation Society.
He was very passionate about Mr. D’z, a 1950s diner he opened in 1994 with his family, where he sold root beer he developed himself.
Scott has a son, Scott Dunton, Jr., with his wife, Dawn, and a son, Shane Dunton, with his wife, Marilyn. He has a daughter, Shelby Koston, with her husband, Gary, and a daughter, Shauna Campbell, with her husband, Matt. His ex-wife Marilyn Balter and his beloved companion Cathy Hodges. 15 grandchildren, Colton, Alec’s wife Kirsten, Aden and fiancée Landa, Chase, Kyle, Blake, Cole, McKenna, Bryce, Jack and Cruz. , Curran, Caleb, Bradley, and Kaia. He has many nieces and nephews as well as his sister Debra Jo Dunton. He was widowed by his granddaughter Paige.
Scott was a wonderful father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He coached all the children’s soccer teams and loved to fish and hunt.He enjoyed spending time on his ranch where he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Scott never missed a football game and enjoyed his granddaughter’s rodeo. He was incredibly loved by his family and all his friends and will be forever missed.
A Ceremony of Life ceremony will be held in Scott’s honor on April 15 at 3:00 pm at the Elks Building at 301 N. Fourth St. in downtown Kingman.
