“Obviously, sex sells.”
This is an age-old truism, and we all know what is said about the “oldest profession.” But the industry responsible for selling sex for the past millennium underwent rapid transformation at the turn of the 21st century. And the change was never for the better.
The Daily Caller’s new documentary “Selling Sex” exposes the dark side of the porn industry brought on by the technological revolution. Porn may be digital, but it’s shaping a whole new reality.

Whether it’s the brothels of the Middle Ages or the Playboy magazines you hid under your bed as a teenager, the sex industry has had common elements for hundreds of years. Of course, before the sexual revolution of the 1960s, there was more social prejudice against unbridled sexual desire. But still, I had to dare to go out in public to get my “fix.” Searching for explicit material required a great deal of effort, an awkward physical encounter with a store clerk, and perhaps some lies and deception. Therefore, it was difficult to avoid at least some embarrassment.
That all changed with the digital revolution. Today, pornography is everywhere. A two-second search on Google will bring up endless hours of acts so depraved that even a bra-wearing 60s feminist would gladly return to the kitchen. All this is done without the soul’s knowledge.
Easy access to anonymity means we have all become desensitized to how shameful this luxury is. It’s no wonder that little girls are growing up dreaming of making millions on OnlyFans while the average age of exposure to porn in the US is just 8 years old.
This is a sign that civilization is in decline and has real-world consequences for people on both sides. The Daily Caller’s investigative team spoke with recovering porn addicts whose formative years were physically and emotionally destroyed by unchecked digital porn. And we talked to the actors on the other side of the camera. They were exploited for money, affirmation, and used in degrading acts until they were finally pushed to the brink. Thirty years later, Generation Porn should be getting married and having children, but we are now beginning to understand the negative effects of the modern porn industry.
Sex always sells. However, as with most things, pure free markets are not sufficient to guarantee optimal outcomes. Especially when we are aided by rapid technological innovation that explodes before we even realize it.
States are currently experimenting with long-overdue regulation of online pornography. However, it remains to be seen whether it has the intended effect. However, as the dark side of the digital porn industry becomes more and more apparent, the following becomes clear: ssomething I have to.
