A detective with the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division investigating a police officer-involved shooting on January 27, 2023 in Bullhead, Arizona.

On the evening of January 27, 2023, Bullhead City Police officers were dispatched to 1600 Blk. Bullhead City, Arizona on Silver Creek Road. In connection with reports that a subject wearing a bulletproof vest was pointing a pistol at bystanders in the area. . His SWAT team from the Bullhead City Police Department, along with the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Operations Unit, responded to assist in the case. The suspect eventually shot his SWAT officer from inside the trailer. In this incident, an innocent bystander (who was occupying another trailer) was found to have been hit by one of the suspect’s bullets.

The bystander was taken to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. for treatment. Bystanders are believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries at this point.

During the clash, three SWAT officers from the Bullhead City Police Department fired their weapons and beat a suspect. The suspect was later identified as her 41-year-old Kyle Schaefer of Bullhead City. Kyle is wounded as a result of the shooting. Kyle continued to fire weapons at SWAT officers, but eventually surrendered. Kyle is believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No police officers were injured in the incident. An investigation is ongoing and the names of the officers involved in the incident have not been released at this time.

It is standard protocol to have an outside agency investigate shootings involving police officers.
