Officials Caution Community To ‘Remain Vigilant’ After Three Elderly People Found Stabbed To Death In Home

Massachusetts law enforcement urged residents to remain vigilant after three elderly people were reportedly found stabbed to death in their home on Sunday morning.

A couple in their 70s were found brutally beaten and stabbed to death inside Newton’s home, along with the wife’s mother, who is in her 90s, according to reports. WCVB. The victims were found later that morning after they realized their friend had not attended church and went to check on him, the newspaper said.

Police found traces of forced entry and pointed out an attempted break-in at a location 800 meters away that morning. It’s unclear if the two incidents are related, but officials are urging residents of both areas to “stay vigilant” as the suspects involved are still at large, according to CBS.

Ryan’s warning was echoed by Newton Police Chief John Carmichael, who assured residents that more police would patrol the area in the wake of the murder.

“I am very concerned about violent crimes like this taking place, but this person is still at large,” Carmichael said. “We reiterate our commitment to being aware and paying attention to what is happening in our neighborhoods.”

The incident shocked friends and neighbors of the family.

“That means it’s a safe area. According to WCVB, there have been no murders in Newton or Nonantum,” said neighbor Jack Porter.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan reportedly revealed that the couple had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary that weekend. CBS.
