The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) reinstated Romanian gymnast Ana Barbos for third place in Saturday's women's floor exercise final, ESPN reported.
FIG's decision could affect American gymnast Jordan Childs, who originally won the bronze medal, following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that invalidated a scoring challenge made during the competition, which temporarily elevated Childs to third place. According to To ESPN.

The controversy began when U.S. team coach Cecil Lundy protested outside the one-minute grace period after the scores were announced, asking for Chiles' score to be increased by 0.1 points. The CAS's decision to revert to the original rankings meant that Barbos placed third, Romanian teammate Sabrina Maneca Boinea placed fourth and Chiles placed fifth, ESPN reported. The situation has sparked a public backlash, with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Colac reportedly pledging to skip the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Tuesday in protest at what he called unfair judging of the women's gymnastics. According to To Fox News.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has the final say on medal distribution, but has yet to comment on whether the Chilean athletes should return their medals. The IOC has stated that while it can adjust rankings, medal distribution is within the purview of the IOC, ESPN reported.
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation proposed to award three bronze medals to resolve the dispute, a proposal that came amid considerable emotional stress for the athletes involved after Romanian gymnastics icon Nadia Comaneci raised concerns about the possible impact on Barbos' mental health, who initially thought he had won the bronze medal.
