One person died and 56 were injured after a bus overturned near the Grand Canyon, Arizona, officials said.
Eight of the wounded were airlifted to hospital, while the rest were transported by ground transport, according to Hualapai emergency operations.
A tour bus collided with a tourist’s car near the Grand Canyon West parking lot, KTNV television news in Las Vegas reported, citing a travel agency spokesperson.
The accident occurred at Grand Canyon West on the Hualapai Reservation, an area that includes the Grand Canyon’s West Rim and the Skywalk, an observation deck that juts into the canyon at a height of about 4,000 feet (1,200 meters) above the canyon floor. .
The cause of the accident is under investigation
The land is distinct from Grand Canyon National Park, which is visited by about five million people a year, according to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center.
A statement said the cause of the crash was under investigation by the Hualapai State Police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Multiple tribal, state and local fire and rescue agencies responded.
