YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The 79th Annual Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo kicks off Friday at the Yuma County Fairgrounds.
Since 1946, the Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo has been held the second weekend in February and has become a community tradition.
This event attracts competitors from all over the world to show off their rodeo skills.
Thomas Garcilaso, known as “Charlo of the Road,” traveled all the way from Texas to compete in the Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo for the first time.
He performs with his 9-year-old son and wife and talks about what this art means to him.
“What people notice through our performances…is to show pride in how we preserve our roots, culture and traditions through authentic music, costumes, tags and horse positions,” Garcilaso said. he said.
