Operation Dry Water to be conducted on Lake Powell for July 4 weekend | Williams-Grand Canyon News

Page, Arizona — Over Independence Day weekend, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area participates in the nationwide Operation Dry Water Awareness and Enforcement Weekend.

To raise public awareness about the dangers of boating under the influence of alcohol and drugs, law enforcement officials across the country will step up vigilance July 1-3.

“Millions of tourists have made Lake Powell adventures a family tradition for generations,” said Glen Canyon Superintendent Michelle Kearns. “Operation Dry Water is part of Glen Canyon’s year-round commitment to fostering a culture of responsible behavior on the water that saves lives, promotes safe boating and ensures legal compliance. We never want a wonderful family trip to end in tragedy due to an avoidable event such as drinking while boating. We ask that everyone reproduce responsibly and be considerate of other boaters on the lake. To do.”

Operating a vessel under the influence of drugs or alcohol is illegal in all waters and can result in serious injury, death and even legal liability for boat operators and passengers. Rangers remind visitors to keep sober while on the boat and to wear life jackets while on the water. Children 12 and under are required to wear a US Coast Guard approved life jacket when navigating the boat.
