Democratic strategist James Carville argued on Thursday’s podcast that Democrats are bound by “truth” in a way that Republicans are not.
Carville,”Political Strategy Office” said New Republic Editor-in-Chief Michael Tomasky on Friday. article President-elect Donald Trump claimed he won the election thanks to “right-wing media.” The Democratic strategist argued that conservative media and Republicans often use fraud, while corporate media holds Democrats accountable and prevents the spread of misinformation. “List all the organizations they have right now, from Fox to Newsmax to One America… There seems to be a lot of demand for this out there, I mean, a lot,” Carville said Tomasky. told. “So, one of the things I always think is, we should do what they’re doing. Well, they lie. I mean, I honestly don’t want to seriously talk. ”
“But our side doesn’t tolerate lies. Now, if a Democrat went on TV and lied, the New Republic would say, ‘That’s not right,’ and the New York Times would say, ‘That’s right. “No,” he would say. So how, and I say this seriously, can one side be constrained by truth? There is no such constraint on the other side,” he added. “You’re starting from a bad place, aren’t you?”
Carville also suggested in September that fact-checkers should focus on “Republicans” to help preserve the U.S. Constitution.
“So let me take the fact-checking industry and say something: No one disputes this. They, by a 5-to-1 margin, would rather fact-check misleading Democratic claims. Because there are so many voices in the Republican Party…They want to say, “We’re just referees, we just call it.” [we] You know, we really don’t have anything. ‘And of course there are times when Democrats exaggerate,” a Democratic strategist said at the time. “What I want to know is, how do you fact-check World War II? … They’re treating this like a normal time when you get shirts and skins, and we’re I call them as I see them.”
“I think the industry as a whole needs to decide: What is our role here? Our role is to be objective, unbiased observers who report as accurately and fairly as possible. Or is our role here to help save the U.S. Constitution?” he continued. “Because they’re two different things.”
ABC News debate hosts Lindsey Davis and David Muir only fact-checked Trump’s false claims during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris in September. He faced backlash for doing so.
For example, Mr. Harris mistakenly accused President Trump in 2017 called the white supremacists in Charlottesville “fine people” and said he would sign a nationwide abortion ban if re-elected, despite repeated claims to the contrary. Ta. The hosts did not correct Harris on either claim.
