Over $1 Billion In Federal Funding Cut From Prestigious Universities Amid ‘Ongoing’ Investigations

The Trump administration has suspended Cornell University’s federal funds and Northwestern University’s more than $790 million in funding due to concerns over the university’s handling of anti-Semitism.

The Trump administration reviewed several universities to comply with civil rights laws, as it relates to protecting Jewish students from discrimination after violent anti-Semitic protests ramped on university campuses for more than a year. In February, the government was assembled. A joint task force to combat anti-SemitismED, Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The task force said “the number one priority is to eradicate anti-Semitic harassment on schools and university campuses,” and then began a review of schools’ civil rights enforcement compliance.

The following month, Ed sent a letter to 60 universities warning of “potential enforcement actions” if Jewish students did not step up to protect them from harassment and discrimination.

“Northwestern has been informed by a member of the media that the federal government is planning to freeze most of its federal funds,” a Northwest spokesman told DCNF. “The university has not received official notifications from the federal government. Since the start of the Israeli Hama War in 2023, anti-Israel events have occurred on university campuses nationwide, resulting in multiple lawsuits being filed against schools that are said to be insufficient to stop the outbreak. Several schools faced investigations into incidents in which anti-Israeli protests took over campus, clashed with police, removed Jewish students from parts of campus, and reportedly overtaking campus buildings and even took university employees hostages.
