Herrera, who is from Mexico, said he has run the store for about seven years and has many customers buying lottery tickets every day. According to ABC7, he plans to use the money to invest in new stores and vacation with his wife and four children.
Lottery officials handed Herrera a $1 million check at a press conference on Thursday, but the identity of the winning Powerball ticket holder remains a mystery, according to ABC7. Lucky Ticket holders have up to one year to claim their prize.
“As we stand here today, we wonder if the people who bought the tickets are still aware. At the time of the lottery, neither we nor the public knows until someone comes forward and claims the prize,” said Carolyn Becker, spokesperson for the California Lottery.

The $1.08 billion jackpot is the sixth largest in U.S. history, with winners choosing to either receive the full amount in annual installments over 29 years or a lump sum of $558.1 million before taxes.
