Wisconsin Law & Liberty Institute Announces New Resources for Parents
The Wisconsin Law & Liberty Institute (WILL) has recently introduced new resources aimed at parents who wish to protect their children from lessons related to radical diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and gender ideology in schools.
This initiative follows a Supreme Court ruling in the Taylor case, affirming that parents have the right to opt their children out of lessons that clash with their personal beliefs. The institute has made available several templates for parents, administrators, and school boards to facilitate compliance with these important court decisions. These templates allow parents to notify schools that their children should not engage in divisive topics like gender ideology, critical race theory, and sex education.
“As students head back to school, our newly developed policies and resources empower parents to assert their rights while enabling school leaders to comply with the latest Supreme Court rulings,” said Corey Brewer, education advisor at WILL, in a press release. “It’s essential that parents, rather than government officials, guide their children’s education and development, and this principle needs support in every school context.”
Additionally, a template has been created for teachers to inform parents about potentially controversial lessons ahead of time, which honors parental rights without adding to teachers’ workloads. The Board of Education is also urged to adopt WILL’s model policy, which emphasizes adherence to court decisions and respect for parents’ rights. This policy clarifies that parents should be informed about controversial lessons being taught and retain the right to access all educational materials, as well as to opt their children out of lessons that don’t align with their family values.
On another note, President Donald Trump has taken actions aimed at removing leftist ideologies from educational settings. On the first day of his second term, he issued an executive order stating that the federal government would recognize only two biological genders. A letter from the Department of Education, issued in February, reinforced existing guidance to schools.
Furthermore, the government has clearly stated a mission to eliminate discriminatory racial preference practices and DEI programs from schools and institutions receiving federal funding, while also investigating numerous schools for alleged violations of these policies.
