Pastor at DNC Event Focuses on ‘Justice and Joy’ and Community Spirit Instead of God

DNC Event Features Pastor’s Political Message

During a Democratic National Committee (DNC) event on Monday, Pastor Jen Roma transformed a sermon that many anticipated to be focused on faith into a political discourse centered around themes like “justice,” “joy,” and community obligation.

At the summer meeting, instead of referencing God and the Bible, Pastor Roma focused on progressive terminology, stating, “As part of the clinical process, he longs for justice and joy for all and for creation.” She emphasized that just showing up signifies hope and promotes a world centered on love.

Romawent on to share her belief that love for one’s neighbor is foundational to many faith traditions. She called on attendees to direct their actions toward “equality, dignity, and compassion for all.” Even when confronted with “complex conversations” and “hard decisions,” she encouraged them to “act lovingly.”

“For me, it’s really about being a neighbor. That’s what life is about. It’s about owning all my faults and biases, my gifts, and using them to engage in difficult discussions and make tough choices. You’re united here by the call to love your neighbor, which should drive your actions,” she said.

Roma further challenged the attendees by asking what actions they would take to support their neighbors, their state, and the world around them. “Given the very existence of God and humanity, your work should reflect love,” she concluded.

During the gathering, party officials discussed “land approval” before proceeding with other matters. The atmosphere followed a backdrop of recent polling, revealing that only 19% of respondents approved of Democratic congressional leaders, amidst ongoing internal strife and fundraising difficulties.
