Lorenzo Sewell, senior pastor of the 180 church, criticized Marian Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, D.C., when he appeared on Fox News Wednesday night to address President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
At Tuesday’s national prayer meeting, Budde preached to both Trump and Vance, urging them to show “mercy” to undocumented immigrants and gay, lesbian and transgender children “who are fearing for their lives.” appealed to the government. On “The Ingraham Angle,” host Laura Ingraham asked Sewell about her thoughts on Budde and the message she conveyed.
“I was serving her. I was physically sitting next to the First Family. What’s so sad about this bishop is that she had the opportunity to preach the Gospel.” Sewell said.
“She had an opportunity to speak about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. She had an opportunity to lead people to faith,” Sewell added. “Instead of using the authority of God’s Word to proclaim the message of Christ and bring the president closer to Jesus, she committed what I call theological and spiritual fraud. I used it for practice.
Following public criticism of Trump and Vance, Budde appeared on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday and preached his goal of “unity,” adding, “The honor and dignity of every human being, the fundamental… “It was to emphasize respect for honesty and humility,” he told the host. ” Sewell responded by criticizing Budde’s preaching, calling her the “worst preacher” he had ever heard and saying he stayed after the service to pray for Trump. “It was terrible. It was so bad. I’m glad my wife wasn’t there. She would have run away from that church,” Sewell said. “I can’t believe she would use that moment to speak a satanic message as if she were using the Bible. She used her position to commit theological fraud. It is.”
“It was terrible. That was the worst message of my life. It was the believers — we prayed after that. After that message, we prayed for the president. Her platform I was the last person to leave the building because I was so angry about how it was being used,” Sewell said.
