“From refill options to recyclable packaging, Peak’s scent really prioritizes the beauty of the greenery.”
Deann Tracy, founder and owner of Flagstaff Peak scent, has sold plant-based toxin-free skincare products for over 30 years. Green Living Magazine.
In relation to promoting skin health, Tracy makes sustainability a priority. “This is at the heart of our mission, to reduce waste and make environmentally friendly choices.”
Tracy’s store off Butler Avenue in Flagstaff is growing steadily. “I’ve been working at Peak scent for two years now and have seen this business grow,” said Nicole Crimper, a fellow seller of Peak scents. “New people are always finding us. It’s great to see people’s skin travels. They transform into my eyes.”
Two years ago, Tracy partnered with Phoenix’s desert curing berries to agree to carry each other’s products. “We sell household items such as dish soap and laundry detergent and provide refills for all of these products,” she said. “We were manufacturing all our products on-site, so the next step was to provide product refills. The customers bring in clean bottles and we fill them up.”
Additionally, she hopes to expand her refill options by providing a refill pouch for website orders. “We have a lot of products and we want to be more sustainable. People are excited about this and we have such an overwhelming response.”
“I have been using peak scented products for 25 years. “We are a great source of economic policy,” said Melissa Jurgensen, a researcher at the Institute of Economic Policy, Northern Arizona University.
“Jurgensen said: “I reduced the consumption of plastic, laundry and personal care for my family in the kitchen. I can’t beat the cost of value.”
An outdoor enthusiast, Tracy has lived in Flagstaff for most of her life and has worked as a river runner for several years. Her mother, familiar with herbs and alternative healing methods, is Phyllis Hogan, a well-known Flagstaff herbaceous scholar who has owned the Wintersun Trading Post since 1976.
““It was my mother’s fault for me that I chose this career path,” she said. “I grew up using herbal treatments and alternative healing methods. After graduating from university, I attended Southwest School of Plant Medicine and returned to Flagstaff to manage her shop. At the time, there was nothing really natural in the market, so customers were always asking about their skincare products.”
This led her to pursue a clean line of skincare products.
Teen acne is one challenge she has worked to alleviate. “At least 10 parents asked me about teenage products. They mentioned how the toxic products they used didn’t work, so I suggested our power repair line But we’re talking about creating a more active product to balance acne.”
Looking forward to it, Tracy plans to hold a workshop this year. “We want to deal with teen acne,” she said.
Karen Terry, manager of Poco Diablo Resort Spa, says Peak’s scented products are a very important part of the spa. “We’ve been using them since 2016. It’s a very clean line and our clients love it. Dean is very knowledgeable and has trained staff on the product so , we really understand them. It sells well and people, including our male clients, really like it.”
Ensuring freshness, all products are produced in small batches and include a line of cleansers and toners, moisturizers, serums and oils, exfoliants and masks, balms and ointments, organic essential oils and hair products. Tracy is considering adding a line of clean cosmetics.
