Pennington passes for 3 touchdowns as Northern Arizona defeats Incarnate Word 31-23

On Saturday, Taipennington had an impressive performance, throwing for 286 yards and securing three touchdowns, leading Northern Arizona to a 31-23 victory over Incarnate Word.

Pennington completed 17 of 34 passes for those yards, connecting with Jason Reigns, Myses Curry, and Jeter Purdy for touchdowns. Kolbe Katsis contributed notably as well, recording four receptions for 95 yards, showcasing the team’s offensive prowess with an average of 16.8 yards per catch.

The scoring started early for Northern Arizona, with Pennington throwing a touchdown pass in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. He followed it up with another score in the second quarter and a short rushing touchdown before halftime, creating a 21-10 advantage.

As Incarnate Word fought back, narrowing the gap to 21-16, Pennington responded by connecting with Curry for a deep touchdown, extending the lead to 28-16. Samuel Hansaker also made a mark by successfully kicking a 50-yard field goal late in the game, securing their win with just under two minutes remaining.

On the other side, Incarnate Word’s EJ Colson completed 28 of 36 passes for 292 yards. He connected with Jameson Garcia for two touchdowns, while Garcia caught nine passes totaling 120 yards. The Cardinals’ rushing game saw Colson lead with 59 yards from 28 carries.

Defensively, Northern Arizona managed to hold the Cardinals to just six points in the third quarter, which proved critical in maintaining their lead.
