‘People Don’t Want This Anymore!’: Donna Brazile Shouts Down Reince Priebus Over Trump’s Record

Political strategist and former Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile clashed with former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus on Sunday as she sought to defend former President Donald Trump's record in a debate about his election messaging.

The two politicians appeared on ABC News' “This Week” to discuss the divide within the Republican Party over Trump's messaging to Harris, with some calling on him to focus on policy rather than personal attacks. As Priebus tried to discuss Trump's electoral trajectory and appeal to voters on key issues, Brazile interjected, saying voters don't want a president who is “fundamentally dividing us.” (RELATED: Exclusive: Wiles and LaCivita still in charge of Trump campaign, sources say)

“Well, I don't disagree with some of you on that point. Number one, if this election is about the economy and the border, Trump wins. Right now, Kamala Harris is trying to reinvent herself as something she's not,” Priebus said, before ABC host Martha Raddatz interjected.

As Raddatz asked Priebus to focus on Trump, Brazile interjected into the conversation to comment on the election. The former White House chief of staff went on to say that Trump was “a giant middle finger to a lot of people” and argued that voters are still upset about the economy and inflation under Biden.

“In Trump's case, in order to win this election, you cannot separate yourself from the person and character of Donald Trump. As I've said before, there's a part of Donald Trump that unites a large part of this country. He's given a big middle finger to a lot of people. People are upset about the state of the economy. Inflation is out of control. Pricing isn't working,” Priebus continued.

Raddatz interjected again, saying Trump hadn't stuck to his policy messaging, and Brazile continued to criticize the former president, saying “the American people are tired of” his “lies” and “insults.”

“We know Donald Trump, we know every time he opens his mouth all that comes out is lies, insults and vulgarity. People are tired of it. The American people don't want this anymore,” Brazile cried. “Fundamentally, the American people don't want a president who divides us. They don't want a president who abuses us. They don't want a president who can't even pronounce the name of the vice president of the United States, and that's Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris.”

Responding to Brazile, Priebus said, “What they don't want is out-of-control inflation, a world that's falling apart and Kamala lying to the American people about who's to blame. I mean, does she have no responsibility for this economic situation? Does she have nothing to do with this? Does she have nothing to do with the withdrawal from Afghanistan? She has nothing to do with…” before being interrupted.

The three began arguing with each other, with Priebus making a final point about President Joe Biden's botched Afghanistan withdrawal, noting that Harris was “the last person in the room” when the decision was being made.

Some Republicans have begun to question the Trump campaign's unfavorable messaging towards Harris, as she continues to hold an advantage in polls since becoming the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination after Biden dropped out of the race on July 21. According to CNBC, Republican officials including businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway and former White House aide Peter Navarro have publicly urged Trump to focus on policy messaging.

“The way forward is to focus on policy, and I think the path to success for the Republican Party is to focus on policy,” Ramaswamy previously said. said NPR.
