In two, three, maybe four years, the Marlins will be perennial World Series contenders. I'm hearing that here for the first time.
The Miami Marlins are currently in the midst of another rebuild, but this time things are different with first-year general manager Peter Bendix at the helm.
Monday night, ESPN The club fired several staff members, including two assistant general managers, four field coordinators and a scouting director who works at international level, and the four-letter network confirmed that other individuals have also been fired. Most of those let go were hired by Derek Jeter or former president of baseball operations Kim Ng. The timing of the moves has puzzled many, as most in baseball had expected Bendix to bring in some of his own talent. With seven weeks left in the season, Fisch clearly isn't cutting corners.
The Marlins front office's decision came on the heels of a complete dismantling of the team. Miami, which is 44-75 entering the 2024 season, released all of its stars and key defensive players, including first baseman, defensive back and fielder. It's clear that Bendix is looking to repeat the same successful formula he had in Tampa (look at how the Marlins swindled money out of teams at the trade deadline and Moneyball is on target), and considering how it's worked for the Rays, who are making annual World Series appearances, you'd better believe I'm all for it.
Like I said…no question…the Fish will soon be a team that makes the playoffs every year, trust me when I say.
