Peter Doocy Says Kamala Harris Ditched Press Pool On Trip To Avoid Coverage

Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy said Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris did not bring reporters with her to avoid media coverage.

More than three weeks after receiving President Joe Biden's endorsement and becoming a leading contender for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, Kamala Harris has yet to make any formal statements to the media or reveal any policies.

Doocy said during a “Special Report” segment that Harris left reporters behind to head to her alma mater, Howard University, to attend an event on Monday.

“New news broke tonight: As the nominee, Vice President Harris is expected to have a press corps accompany her wherever she goes. We just learned that she left the press corps behind yesterday to attend an event at Howard University,” Doocy said.

“We've reached out to her office,” Fox News' White House correspondent continued, “and are waiting to hear back as to why she doesn't want a small group of reporters to document her trip around town.”

Harris' opponent, former President Donald Trump, participated in a more than two-hour livestreamed conversation with billionaire Elon Musk on Twitter's “Spaces” on Monday night. Invited Vice President Harris also requested a similar interview, but she did not respond. (RELATED: Nikki Haley tells Fox News to 'stop complaining' about Kamala Harris shunning the media)

Trump also held a lengthy press conference on Thursday in which he challenged Harris to three debates in September. ABC Washington bureau chief Rick Klein confirmed Thursday that both sides have agreed to participate in the debate on ABC News on Sept. 10. Harris has not yet agreed to any other debates.

The Republican candidate's campaign suggested Saturday that if Harris declines to participate in the Sept. 4 debate on Fox News or the Sept. 25 debate on NBC, Trump would host a town hall meeting instead.
