The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) announced Monday that no charges will be filed against two Phoenix police officers who were caught on video violently kicking a suspect inside a convenience store as they tried to detain him.
The incident occurred on October 27, when police officers Eddie Becerra and Nicholas Beck attempted to arrest Harry Denman.

Officers chased Denman to an area convenience store where they were recorded kicking him, stamping him on the head, and hitting him with a gun while he was on the ground. A bystander captured the moment on camera.
After the incident, Denman was hospitalized, and the Phoenix Police Department recommended that Becerra and Beck be charged with assault.
After reviewing the evidence, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office determined that Becerra’s actions warranted criminal charges, but there was no reasonable chance of a conviction for Beck’s actions.
State of Court Documents Beck’s actions occurred before Denman was handcuffed and a gun was found, so a conviction is unlikely.
Prosecutors introduced Becerra’s case to the Maricopa County Grand Jury on Thursday, January 26. The presentation included body cam footage, store-supplied surveillance video, and bystander video.
A grand jury declined to issue an indictment against Officer Becerra.
Interim Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan An administrative investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and both Becerra and Beck said they were on administrative leave.
