On Friday, British journalist Piers Morgan shared his thoughts on Fox News’ “Five People,” stating that Democrats won’t win back voters until they embrace “common sense.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris made a notable appearance on Thursday with Stephen Colbert to talk about her new book. Morgan pointed out that she seems to struggle with identifying a new leader for the Democratic Party.
“Honestly, from our perspective, they’re incredibly embarrassing. They’re not acting like Democrats. They’re at a record low in approval ratings,” Morgan remarked. “She [Kamala Harris] talks about a broken system and her latest book.”
He further stated, “I’m writing a book too, and it seems like, listening to her, she embodies the essence of Trump and the ongoing discussions about him. I believe the Democrats aren’t finished yet. What we see is a remnant of old thinking, dramatically rejected in the last election.”
Since Donald Trump’s election win in November, Democrats have struggled to present a cohesive message and find a strong leader. New polls from sources like the Wall Street Journal and Gallup show that the party is experiencing a significant downturn.
In a recent analysis, CNN’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten, noted that Democrats are not only “historically divided” but also lacking the typical voter support for presidential candidates seen in previous elections.
“They wonder why Donald Trump was re-elected; it’s about his policies, his strong personality, the economy, and immigration,” Morgan noted. “But I think it boils down to the Democrats’ fundamental issue, which is an abandonment of common sense. You can actually trace it.”
“They’re trying to convince people that it makes perfect sense for a 6-foot, 4-inch man to compete in women’s sports like swimming and track and field. They need to return to common sense. That’s probably why she couldn’t respond to the question—there’s confusion over who the future leader is.”
Harris’s interview came after she announced she would not run for governor in California in 2026, leading to speculation about a potential presidential campaign in 2028 as she expressed her desire to listen to American voices again.
“History tends to favor someone who can bring the party back to the center, someone like Bill Clinton, who understands common sense,” Morgan commented. “But I honestly don’t know who that person is, and they need to figure it out quickly. Considering Kamala and Biden, it’s concerning to think if he becomes president in the next four years—and he can hardly move.”
It’s still uncertain who might run for the Democratic nomination in 2028, but early indications suggest candidates like California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg could be in the mix.
