Pima County residents can get rid of old cooking oil quickly and easily this weekend.
The Pima County Wastewater Treatment Facility held its annual grease collection event in Tucson and many locations throughout the county.
On Saturday, January 6, six locations will be opened across the county where the public can drop off their used cooking fats, oils and fats.Business hours of each store will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“Eliminating grease from the sewer system is in everyone’s best interest,” said Steve King, the association’s permitting and regulatory compliance officer. Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Authority (RWRD).
The department began holding annual grease drives in 2005 to educate the public about the dangers of putting grease and similar substances into sewer systems. Grease solidifies as it cools, so when it gets sticky, it can clog pipes, clog drains, and cause pest problems.
“This event is an annual reminder to save and recycle grease rather than pouring it down the drain or flushing it away,” King said.
This year's drop-off locations are as follows:
- O'Rielly Chevrolet, 6160 E. Broadway Blvd.
- Kino Sports Complex, 2500 E. Ajo Way.
- Pima Community College, West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road.
- Pima Community College, Northwest Campus, 7600 N. Shannon Road.
- Pima Community College, Desert Vista Campus, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz.
- Sahuarita City Hall Complex, 375 W. Sahuarita Center Way
The recovered grease is recycled as clean-burning biodiesel fuel. glyceryla locally owned company
