Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb's adult son and infant granddaughter were killed in a crash in Gilbert Friday afternoon, officials said.
On Saturday, Cooper Lamb, 22, and his 1-year-old daughter were identified as the victims of the accident. Gilbert police said the two were in one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
The two-vehicle accident occurred at Elliott Road and Cole Drive around 3:45 p.m. Friday. Officials said Cooper-Lamb and the infant were passengers in a vehicle making a left turn when a pickup truck struck them.
Police said the truck appeared to be traveling at normal speed at the time of the accident.
The child's mother, who was the driver, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained in critical condition Saturday, authorities said. Police said Ram and the baby were pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was not injured. After his initial investigation, he was arrested on suspicion of disorder and his charges were sent to the county prosecutor's office for review, police announced.

Cooper and his daughter were passengers in the car,” the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Saturday. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 43,000 people died in traffic crashes in 2021. This is up from about 39,000 deaths in 2020.
