Jayden Rashada has found a landing spot.
The former Pittsburgh High School quarterback announced on Twitter Wednesday morning that he will be attending Arizona State University, where his father Harlen played defensively in the 1990s.
Arizona announced the signing of Rashada later in the day.
“Ready to write his own legacy,” the program wrote on its Twitter account.
Wednesday was the first day recruits were allowed to put pen to paper during the traditional signing period.
Rashada, a 5-star prospect, had signed a letter of intent with the University of Florida in early December. But when it was reported that her $13.5 million Name, Image and Likeness deal fell apart with Florida’s independent fundraising arm, Gator Collective, Rashada requested release from the agreement, saying, Approved.
Back on the open market, he reportedly made an unofficial visit to Arizona two weekends ago and visited TCU last weekend.
In a Twitter post, Rashada called Arizona State University “my childhood dream school” and “a place where I could be happy.”
He also said Arizona State has a head coach who “always had my back.”
When Arizona’s new coach, Kenny Dillingham, was Oregon’s offensive coordinator, he tried to lure Rashada to Eugene.
The extent of Rashada’s NIL deal with Arizona remains to be seen. However, it seems unlikely that he will come close to the $13.5 million over four years he was reportedly slated to receive at the University of Florida, or the $9 million he was reportedly slated to receive at the University of Miami.
Rashada made headlines last summer when he verbally promised to go to Miami, and again when he returned to Florida in November.
