Pius Fire evacuation orders remain in effect in northern Arizona

PHOENIX – Evacuation orders for the Pius Fire in northern Arizona remained in effect Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

Pius' Fire The fire started about 12:30 p.m. Monday about 20 miles northeast of Payson. At last count, the fire was at 460 acres and is not contained.

The power lines that supply power to the Phoenix metropolitan area are about four miles southeast of the wildfire.

Fire officials said smoke is expected to affect the communities of Christopher Creek, Payson, Young, Forest Lakes and Heber-Overgaard.

According to the latest incident command report, 76 personnel were assigned to extinguish the Pius Fire, including four helicopters, four fire engines, five bulldozers and one water tanker.
