Apache Junction, Arizona — A plane crashed in the Hog Canyon area southeast of Flatiron in the Superstition Wilderness, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Saturday morning.

Authorities said several people witnessed the plane crash and that air support was able to locate the crash site.

Federal Aviation Administration officials have identified the plane as a single engine that took off from Mesa’s Falcon Field Airport early in the morning.

There were two people on board the plane. Authorities have not released their identities at this time.

PCSO said it will share more information as details are confirmed. At this time, the make and model of the aircraft are unknown, as are the circumstances of those who may have been on board.
