Police Arrest Actor Akili McDowell, Charge Him For Allegedly Murdering Someone

Police arrested “David Makes Man” star Akili McDowell on August 1 on suspicion of murder and theft.

According to a statement from Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, law enforcement officials responded to an incident on July 20 in an apartment parking lot near Wallisville and Uvalde in East Harris County, Texas. Published on Facebook on August 3rdGonzalez reported that officers found a man, believed to be in his 20s, suffering from gunshot wounds and who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Harris County police reported that one or more suspects fled the scene.

Police later released an update on the arrest, saying, “Homicide detectives have charged Akili McDowell (21) with murder in the shooting death of Cesar Peralta (20). McDowell was recently taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail.”

It's unclear how McDowell was identified as a suspect, or if the actor knew Peralta.

It was not immediately clear whether he pleaded guilty or hired an attorney to represent himself.

No further information has been provided that would shed light on what led to this tragedy, and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information that could help shed light on the incident.

“The investigation is ongoing and we ask that anyone with information contact the Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100,” police said in a statement.
