Missouri Highway Patrol troopers arrested American rapper Nelly in St. Louis at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday on suspicion of drug possession, Page Six reported.

A local police spokesman said the singer was arrested inside Hollywood Casino in St. Charles after a background check. Page 6A background check revealed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for having no insurance for a previous traffic offense. According to Page Six, officers then found Nelly in possession of four ecstasy pills and charged him with possession of a controlled substance.

Nelly was a casino patron who was detained by police. Billboard The report cited a source familiar with the situation, who also claimed that Nelly was handcuffed inside the establishment and then led around the casino in police custody.

The casino verification check is reportedly standard procedure at Missouri casinos and was carried out in accordance with gaming commission regulations. Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was detained by police and appeared in a mugshot wearing a white T-shirt, black hoodie and silver chains. He was then charged with driving without insurance for an offense dating back six years, according to Billboard.

According to documents obtained by Page Six, the famous hit singer has been released from police custody as of press time.

Nelly does not appear to have spoken publicly about the matter or posted any information on his social media accounts.

It is unclear how much bail has been set, and no information about upcoming court dates has been released as of this writing.

The rapper rekindled his on-and-off relationship with Ashanti Shequoia Douglas Haynes in April 2023 and is expecting his first child with her.
