Update on Minneapolis School Shooting
At a press conference on Wednesday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that all children injured in a recent shooting at a Catholic school are expected to survive.
Unfortunately, two children, aged 8 and 10, lost their lives during the incident. Fourteen others were injured, though their conditions vary in severity. The gunman was shot and killed at the scene. O’Hara mentioned that, as far as he knows, all children are currently with their parents.
O’Hara expressed hope that all victims will recover, though he noted that the nature of their injuries differs. The shooting took place during a morning service at the school, which caters to students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Authorities have identified the shooter as a man in his early twenties named Robin Westman. In a troubling development, videos linked to Westman surfaced shortly after the shooting, featuring ominous content, including various firearms and disturbing messages aimed at religion and political figures.
In one video, Westman appears to express deep distress, describing significant personal struggles and writing, “I’ve learned to corrupt this world and hate what life is.” Other recorded messages contained racially charged language, threats against public figures, and unsettling references to historical atrocities.
Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem confirmed the shooter’s identity and stated that Westman identifies as transgender. Additionally, FBI Director Kash Patel announced that the investigation will focus on domestic terrorism and hate crimes that specifically target the Catholic community.
