Police officer from Maricopa Community College shoots suspect

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the suspect pointed a gun at passing vehicles.

PHOENIX — A suspect has died after being shot by a Maricopa Community College police officer near 48th Street and Van Buren Avenue, authorities said Thursday.

Phoenix Police received a report of a suspect pointing a weapon at passing vehicles. Maricopa University Police located the suspect before Phoenix Police arrived. One of the two officers shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The identities of the officers and suspects involved have not been released.
