Tragic Shooting Incident at CDC Headquarters in Atlanta

A Georgia police officer was killed while on duty after gunmen opened fire at the Atlanta headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The DeKalb County Police Department expressed their sorrow over the loss of Officer David Rose, stating, “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart to announce the death of Officer David Rose, who was tragically killed in the line of duty.” They noted his commitment to serving the community with integrity and bravery, especially considering the inherent dangers of the job. The department extended their condolences to Officer Rose’s family, friends, and the law enforcement community during this challenging time.

Officer Rose, who was 33, leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children.

As the situation unfolded, Emory University began issuing alerts about an active shooter near their Atlanta campus starting at around 5:33 PM on Friday, advising students to evacuate and steer clear of the area.

The shooting incident took place on Emory’s campus, close to the CDC. Late Friday night, university officials were still working to confirm details surrounding the active shooter situation.

Law enforcement has the latest information on today’s active shooter incident at Emory Point, an apartment and retail complex adjacent to the Atlanta campus.

The morning after the shooting, Emory University announced that they would increase police presence around the area for additional safety.

The Emory Police Department shared an update stating that there would be enhanced police presence throughout the weekend, with officers from both the Emory and Georgia Tech police departments patrolling.

On Saturday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White from Kennesaw, Georgia, as the suspect in the shooting.
