Police say Bengals’ Joe Mixon not a suspect in shooting | National

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is not a suspect in this week’s home shooting, according to police records.

Authorities in Hamilton County, Ohio released a case report on Thursday regarding an incident in which a child was shot in the leg Monday night.

According to reports obtained by ESPN, the children were playing a game with toy guns in the victim’s backyard when a shot was fired from a neighboring residence connected to Mixon.

Reports say an unidentified suspect fired 11 shots, one of which hit a child.

Attorney Merlyn Shiverdecker, representing Mixon, said he hopes the whole matter will be resolved soon.

“I believe this issue will probably be resolved by this time next week,” Shiverdecker told ESPN on Thursday.

The home in question, located in the Anderson Township area of the Cincinnati metropolitan area, was listed as Mixon’s residence last month, and a warrant was issued against Mixon on an aggravated intimidation charge. The case was dismissed the day after the warrant was filed, and Mixon, 26, was never arrested.

Mixon just finished his sixth season with the Bengals in a 23-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

Last season, he recorded 210 carries for 814 yards and 7 touchdowns and caught 60 passes for 441 yards and 2 TDs. In his 6 of his season, Mixon rushed for 5,378 yards on 1,314 carries and 40 TDs on 231 catches for 1,763 yards and he scored 10.

The Bengals selected Mixon in the second round with the 48th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. A potential first-round pick, he withdrew from the draft due to concerns about his character. While in Oklahoma in 2014, Mixon pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge of punching a woman in the face.

Mixon signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension in 2020 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021.
