TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) — Tucson Power spokesman Joseph Barrios confirmed to KGUN 9 that most of the outages across the company’s infrastructure were caused by the storm.
“We had 11,000 customers out of service for a short period of time,” he said. “But only about 4,000 are out of service at the moment.”
Original story Sunday, July 23, 8:14 pm
Thousands of Tucson Electric Power (TEP) customers are without power as thunderstorms rumble through southern Arizona.
The Tucson National Weather Service warned the nation of the approaching severe weather just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The main threat, he said, is gusts of wind up to 60 mph.
About 10 minutes later, TEP informed people about multiple blackouts. These are due to the arrival of the storm.
9,105 customers are currently affected, according to TEP’s website, which tracks live outages.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department immediately commented on storm damage south of West Aho and west of Interstate 19.
We’ve heard rumors of downed power lines and poles, downed power lines, damage to homes, and odors of natural gas from possible leaks.
Lawmakers have warned Tucson residents to be careful when driving in the storm, especially in areas where traffic lights are out, such as West Valencia Road and South Cardinal Avenue.
