The Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) and Central Arizona Fire Medical Agency (CAFMA) are investigating the incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 8:17 a.m. after receiving reports of a woman screaming for help, gunshots and a fire at a home in the 3100 block of Yavapai Road East. When police and fire personnel arrived on the scene, they encountered a fire scene and heard gunshots coming from inside the home.
When police and firefighters arrived on scene, gunfire was still being heard from inside the home, so they first evacuated nearby residents and then took up a defensive position before approaching the home, which was fully engulfed in flames.
The structure fire was extinguished after the gunfire ceased. An investigation led to the recovery of three bodies found within the residence. The bodies included two adult females (ages 57 and 54) and one adult male (age 52) with multiple gunshot wounds.
An investigation revealed that the man had suffered an apparent single gunshot wound, and preliminary investigations suggest this was a case of double murder followed by suicide.
As a result of the investigation, there are no outstanding suspects in this incident and there is no danger to the community. No police or fire personnel were injured during the response or investigation. This matter remains under investigation by PVPD and CAFMA.
