Over the weekend, Prescott’s Yavapi College baseball team played in the 3-game series vs. #25 Arizona Western, which quickly turned out to be a Yavapi classic! All three games ended with a home team walk-off home run. One is the two walk-off homers in games 1 and 3 from Justin Cherington in Game 2. Yabapai defeats the #25 rank Matador with a 3-0 sweep!
Game 1
This game has been nail bitters the whole time, finishing with AJ Diaz’s walk-off home run, bringing the final score to 11-10!
In addition to two runs from AJ Diaz, either run comes from Kevin Ramos (2), Caleb Horsey (2), Justin Cherrington (2), Matthew Peterson, Nathan Nichols and Liam Richards. The run is hit by Peterson (2), Diaz (2), Ramos (2), Brady Francisco (2), Nichols and Carson Fedema.
Horse and Richards each stole the bass in this game, while Francico and Peterson each had triples.
Traig Orton had five strikeouts, while pitcher Ty Thompson had three strikeouts in the face of seven batters.
The double play came from Ramos, Cherington and Shane Hooper. Cherington had 10 put outs and Francisco had nine. Peterson assisted three times.
Game 2
Justin Cherington called the game and scored a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of five innings. Yabapai wins the game 15-4.
Cherrington and Caleb Horsey each scored home runs in this game! Other runs came from Matthew Peterson (2), AJ Diaz (2), Reed Hart, Dalton Irwin, Brady Francisco and Liam Richards. Cherington hit only six of those runs.
Matthew Peterson stole two bases in the game, and Diaz, Horse and Richards also stole one each.
Winning pitcher Colin Adams pitched an excellent game, earning four strikeouts and allowing zero hits until the final innings.
Cherington had six put outs and Francisco had four. Kevin Ramos assisted three times.
Game 3
In the wild finish of the series, AJ Diaz was to hit a walk-off two-run home run at the bottom of 10 innings, winning the game and Series 15-14!
In addition to Dias’ Homer, Roughriders will score four more home runs! Each run came from Matthew Peterson, Carson Fedema, Brady Francisco and Justin Cherington. Three of these home runs took place in the first inning alone!
Peterson and Richards each came from three runs, Fedema and Diaz two, with the rest from Reed Hart, Kevin Ramos, Caleb Horse, Brady Francisco and Justin Cherington.
Chase Breece had five strikeouts, with Kyle Rockridge and AJ Diaz having two.
Francis had 10 put outs and Cherington had seven. Ramos assisted six times.

Next weekend, the guys head to Henderson. There they face off in more meeting plays on the road with #6 Southern Nevada. Games 1 and 2 will take place on Fridays at noon and 2:30pm. Game 3 is at 12pm the next day.
