Prescription Drug Take Back Day in 50 sites across state


Physicians from the Alabama State Medical Association urge Alabamians to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications at one of 50 locations across the state on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ing.

Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, held twice a year as a way to encourage people to remove unnecessary medications from their homes.

“Old, unnecessary, or expired prescription drugs are all too often the gateway to addiction and accidental overdose. Take Back Day helps you get rid of these drugs forever and never It is a safe, convenient and responsible way to prevent misuse and abuse,” said Dr. George Koulianos, President of the Alabama Medical Association.

In June, Alabamians experienced more than 1,300 overdose-related emergency room visits. By participating in Take Back Day, people can play an important role in preventing drug abuse and protecting others from accidental poisoning and overdose.
