Princess Royal Hospitalized Following Injuries

Princess Anne was hospitalized on Sunday night after suffering head injuries in an accident with a horse.

“The Princess Royal suffered minor injuries and concussion following an incident in the Gatcombe Park grounds yesterday evening,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on its website and social media. “The Princess remains in Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure, is under observation and is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.”

She suffered a minor head injury, likely from being struck by the horse's head or leg, according to the New York Post.

Princess Anne was reportedly given emergency treatment at the scene after her injuries. She was then flown to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, England, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace. The New York Post reports that Anne underwent a series of tests and treatments and is currently under observation. Doctors and nurses will continue to monitor her injuries and recovery until further notice.

Princess Anne's husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, her daughter Zara Tindall and her son Peter Phillips were at the residence when the incident occurred, the outlet reported. Senior royal officials were reportedly informed of Princess Anne's injuries late on Sunday night as the situation developed.

The Princess Royal is the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

Initial reports, according to the New York Post, suggest she could be released from the hospital within days.

“Her Royal Highness is making a steady recovery, is in good condition and remains in hospital as a precautionary measure for further observation,” a palace spokesman said in a statement, according to the New York Post.

Princess Anne is due to take part in an official visit in the coming days and was due to leave for a trip to Canada over the weekend, the New York Post reported. (RELATED: Kate Middleton opens up about mental health)

“Following medical advice, Her Majesty The Queen's scheduled appointments will be postponed for the next week and Her Majesty apologises to anyone who may be inconvenienced or disappointed by this,” a spokesman was quoted as saying.
