Pro-Palestinian Protester Punched Cop After Crashing Dem Senator’s Fundraiser

Pro-Palestinian protesters assaulted a police officer during a private fundraising event for Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday.

Pro-Palestinian protesters on Sunday attacked a birthday fundraiser in Milwaukee for Mr. Baldwin, who is seeking re-election this year. according to To Sentinel. According to the Sentinel, protesters challenged officers about their ethnicity. When a police officer told a protester that he was Palestinian, she declared that he was contributing to the wrong cause and punched him.

“Hitting a police officer is never acceptable,” Baldwin spokesman Andrew Mamo told the Sentinel. “On Sunday, a group of protesters burst into the event to which they were not invited. They were asked to leave but were refused. Police were called. The protesters were removed and the event went on as planned. It has progressed.”

The officer was not seriously injured in the attack, according to the Sentinel. Baldwin's office said it has been in contact with the Milwaukee Police Department regarding the officer's situation and plans to call him directly the next day he works.

It is unclear whether the protesters have been arrested or whether charges have been referred to the district attorney's office, according to the Sentinel.

“The safety of our officers is the Milwaukee Police Department's top priority,” the Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement, according to the Sentinel. “The Metropolitan Police is committed to transparency, but as this recent incident is currently under active investigation, we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”
