Enjoy car shows, food, music and support a good cause in your backyard

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The 2nd Annual Cool January Classic Car Show will be held at Carefree Village Resort (CVR) in Yuma on Saturday, January 27th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is open to the public and will feature a “Cruising the Village” parade starting at 10:30 a.m. just before the show begins.

Rusty Knapp, CVR's activities director, said the more cars on display, the merrier.

They expected 50 to 60 units in 2023, but the number ended up being about 80 units, and they expect the number to increase further this year.

You can pre-register for $25 at the CVR located at 3900 S. Ave 8 1/2 E. or register on the day for $35.

Net proceeds are donated to the Humane Society of Yuma.

In order to display your car at a show, you must pass a qualification test.

“Anything over 20 years old. We have awards for each classification, depending on stock, modified, and year,” Knapp says. “We also have some fun awards, like the Flirting Car award and maybe someone has a giant backseat. There's also the Best Eye award, which means the best headlights.”

You can earn 13 trophies and numerous shields.

KYMA's Melissa Zaremba and Samantha Byrd, along with City Councilor Carol Smith, will be the celebrity judges selecting the Celebrity Choice Awards.

In addition to car shows, there are also food trucks and live DJs to keep you entertained.

A sock hop will be held from 7 p.m.

“Sock hop is fun. It's a music that started in the late '50s, '60s, '70s and continues into the early '80s. There are cash prizes for the best dressed man and the best dressed woman,” Knapp explains. Masu.

Knapp is asking the community to come out and support a good cause if you have time on a Saturday afternoon.

“Have fun. Eat, listen to music and look at all the great, great cars,” Knapp says.
