The Safford-Graham County Elections Office has released the first election results and Proposition 401 passed.
It may be on the other side of the mountain, but it’s still Graham County and you’ll have to live under a rock for not knowing about the major county-wide proposal. Passed by about 54% to about 46% of the vote, the first ballot was 5,751 in favor and 4,863 against out of 10,614 votes. There were 5,982 early votes, 3,474 votes on Election Day, and 1,158 “late votes.”
The proposal confirms a Graham County Board of Supervisors vote to change zoning to allow for the cultivation of medical-grade cannabis in two greenhouses at Bonita’s Nature Suite facility. At his historic BOS meeting on June 21, 2021, the supervisor approved changes to zoning requests from Bayacan, LLC, and rezoned his two greenhouses at NatureSweet’s facility in Bonita. made cannabis cultivation possible with a 2-1 vote. The electoral district surrounds the area in question and casts the only negative vote. Rezoning changes an area from general land use certification to unlimited manufacturing.
With approval from BOS, “Respect the will of the people: Graham County voters and the Arizona Public Integrity Alliance are encouraging them to vote against the mass expansion of marijuana in our area.” A group called has come to seek signatures on a referendum on decisions by the government. The Graham County Board of Supervisors (BOS) is rezoning the greenhouse at her NatureSweet site in Bonita to allow cannabis cultivation. The group beat her Aug. 5, 2021 deadline to submit 2,288 signatures, said Graham County elections official Hannah Düderstadt.
With a vote, the matter appears to have been resolved and Bayakan is free to proceed with his cultivation plan.
