Charges Filed After 21 Dogs Found Dead at Boarding Facility
Prosecutors have reportedly pressed charges against the owners of a dog boarding facility located in Argyle, New York, after discovering 21 dead dogs on the premises.
As per court documents, Robert and Anastasia Pallis, who run Anastasia Acres, face 22 misdemeanor charges. Detectives allege that the facility lacked proper ventilation and access to water. The couple is accused of neglect, mistreatment, and failing to provide adequate nutrition in violation of New York State laws.
First responders were called to Anastasia Acres on Sunday following reports of deceased animals, as confirmed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO). Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy indicated that officials found 21 dogs dead, with one surviving dog transported to an emergency animal clinic for treatment.
The press release stated, “The owner of Anastasia Acres is cooperating with the sheriff’s office during the investigation. Veterinarians are aiding the detectives and assisting animal control officers in Argyle.”
Anastasia Acres has been in operation since 2020, offering services such as boarding, grooming, daycare, training, and home care to dog owners. The facility’s website appears to be down for maintenance, according to reports.
While the owners have been released, they are scheduled to appear in Argyle Court soon. Daniel Barber, one of those who allegedly lost two dogs, voiced his shock and sorrow over the situation. He remarked that he hadn’t heard from the owner since the tragic event.
“Their home is literally 30 feet from the dog house,” Barber noted. “So, the fact that no one went out to check on the dogs is concerning. I’m sure some of them were in pain.”
The WCSO is urging any community members with information related to the case to come forward.
