Protesters Storm The 18th Green During Pivotal Moment In Golf Tournament, Appear To Throw Smoke, Powder

Climate change protesters were seen on video on Sunday storming onto the 18th green at the 2024 Travelers Championship golf tournament, attempting to throw an orange substance and then fleeing from authorities.

The final group was seen lining up to putt at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) River Highlands when six activists from the UK-founded environmental group Extinction Rebellion stormed onto the field, causing chaos. Smoke bombs scattering what appeared to be orange powder were reportedly thrown onto the field, and some of the activists were wearing the Extinction Rebellion logo on their shirts. Golfers Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim were at the field at the time and reportedly saw protesters charging forward as authorities gave chase. Video posted to Twitter shows authorities tackling protesters en masse, slamming them to the ground within seconds of the incident starting.

The incident led to the tournament being postponed as course officials attempted to return the tournament to normal play. according to According to Golf Digest, a video posted online showed golf spectators being heard chanting “USA, USA, USA” during the cleanup.

The match between Scheffler and Kim eventually resumed, with the judges cutting new pin positions away from the chaos caused by the activists, the outlet reported.
