A winter storm hits Arizona, bringing rain, snow, and wind to the state.

What to Expect: Major Winter Storm Affecting Arizona

Spotty showers began in the Valley early Tuesday morning, and the National Weather Service said the storm could “disrupt” northern Arizona.

“Dust and snow are flying, winds are blowing, and dangerous to impossible driving conditions are to be expected.” NWS Flagstaff tweeted Tuesday morning.

Some events, roads and schools are closed due to bad weather.

About 5,500 customers in the Phoenix area were without power around 9 a.m. Wednesday, SRP reported.
APS indicated no outage in the valley around 9am Wednesday morning.
APS reported power outages for more than 14,000 customers in northern Arizona Wednesday morning.

APS: about 20,400 customers. Most affected area Includes the cities of Phoenix, Flagstaff, Mann’s Park, and Happy Jack.

SRP: about 7,900 customers. Most affected area Includes Arcadia, Scottsdale, and Apache Junction.

APS reports Thousands of customers across the state are without power. Areas most affected include Flagstaff, Prescott and Manns Park.

Sky Harbor’s website shows 51 cancellations and 18 delays for upcoming flights. The FAA said this morning a ground stop or delay program is possible in Phoenix.

Although these roads are closed for ADOT and DPS, additional highway closures may be required due to changing weather conditions.

  • Interstate 40 eastbound is closed at US 93 east of Kingman.
  • I-40 Westbound is closed at Winslow
  • SR 87 Southbound suspended at Winslow
  • US 180 is closed north of Snowbowl between mileposts 236 and 248

These highways will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
