A windy and rainy morning in Lake Havasu City did nothing to dampen the spirits of excited Volkswagen bus owners who lined up early to enter Lake Havasu State Park.
Gates for the “Bus by the Bridge” event opened at 9 a.m. Thursday, and by noon hundreds of vendors and campers were already set up. New arrivals also struggled to set up in strong winds of up to 30 miles per hour.
Several large groups visited Havasu from out of state earlier in the week and set up camp together. Bus owners from Mexico, Canada and Europe will also be participating.
The event continues until Sunday and features several raffles, concerts, and activities each day.
Friday's events include a lantern workshop, walk and a performance by the band The 64's.
Admission is $5 per person for walk-in spectators and is valid daily. Camping is possible even if you do not have a bus.

Spectators check out vendor booths at the Bus by the Bridge event. Vendors will sell vintage items, clothing and more, many of which are Volkswagen-themed.
Attendees at the 27th annual Bus by the Bridge event stand in line in the wind and cold to register and get their raffle tickets on the first day of the event.
