Many Alabama political figures are looking forward to President Donald Trump’s upcoming address at the University of Alabama on May 1st. The university confirmed on Tuesday that Trump will be speaking at the Coleman Coliseum.
Trump had announced the engagement the previous night, stating, “I agreed to give an opening speech at two really great places, the University of Alabama and West Point. Looking for the time and date!!”
Senator Katie Britt, an alumnus of the university, expressed her enthusiasm, calling it a “historic speech.” She shared her excitement on Twitter, saying, “What a tremendous honor for my alma mater. We look forward to historic opportunities for graduates and their families. Roll Tide!”
Governor Kay Ivey echoed Britt’s sentiments, emphasizing the unique opportunity for the graduates and their families. She commented on social media, pointing out how special it is to hear from the President of the United States.
U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville is also thrilled about Trump returning, referring to him as “Alabama’s favorite president.” He expressed anticipation for his visit back to the state.
Representatives Barry Moore and Robert Aderholt believe Trump’s speech will resonate for years to come. Moore noted the honor it is for the President to return to Alabama, while Aderholt shared his excitement about Trump delivering the address at the University of Alabama.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall mentioned that this is a wonderful way for the class of 2025 to celebrate their accomplishments. He said he was thrilled about Trump’s involvement and how significant it would be for the state.
This event marks a significant occasion, as it will be the first time a former U.S. president has delivered an opening speech at Alabama’s most prominent university. The spring commencement ceremonies are scheduled for May 2-4, with more than 6,700 students expected to graduate.
