BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox added right-handed starter Garrett Whitlock to the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation.
Whitlock sat one inning out of his most recent start in Toronto on Saturday with what was described as a “right elbow strain.”
Before Tuesday’s game against Texas at Fenway Park, manager Alex Cora said Whitlock had a “bone bruise.”
Cora said the club will reassess Whitlock’s injury next week.
Whitlock, 27, has started 10 games this season, going 4-3 with a 5.23 ERA.
In addition, left-hander James Paxton, who was named AL Pitcher of the Month in June, is on parental leave.
Paxton, 34, has started nine games this season, going 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA.
To fill the roster, the team recalled lefty Brandon Walter and righty Taylor Scott from Triple-A Worcester.
