Reeves Wildfire contained near Tombstone; roads open, power restored

The Tombstone Sheriff’s Office announced in an online update that power had been restored and Gleason Road was reopened.

2:05 pm update

According to the latest information from AZDFFM, firefighters stopped the progress of the fire at about 2:00 pm.

The fire was mapped on 88 acres.

Crew members are currently engaged in clearing operations and patrolling around the burn area. AZDFFM told KGUN that the crew took about four hours to extinguish the fire before it stopped moving forward, and said they would remain on site to monitor internal hotspots and smoke.

Authorities announced that one house had been evacuated.

According to the Tombstone Sheriff’s Office, much of the city is without power and communications.

Authorities have begun distributing water and ice at the Tombstone Senior Center (507 E. Toughnut St.).

City Hall, Courthouse and Sheriff’s Office lobbies are also currently closed.

A 100-acre wildfire is currently burning east of Tombstone Wednesday morning.

of Arizona Forest and Fire Service The Reeves Fire, located about three miles east of Tombstone in Cochise County, is reportedly “moving eastward.”

AZDFFM said wind is not a major concern at this time and the fire appears to be moving away from nearby buildings.

National crews are fighting the fire, with air support from four single-engine air tankers. As of about 10 a.m., Gleason Road is closed from the 0 mile marker to the 5 mile marker, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents near Gleason and Camino San Rafael in Tombstone that “SET” status is in effect in the area. This means:

  • Beware of nearby threats
  • Please pack your bags and be ready to depart on notice.

Everyone else should avoid the area, CCSO says.
